Thank God for social bookmarking. This wonderful concept is really what allows bum marketers to be effective. Lightning fast indexing of your web pages and quickly establishing a network of quality backlinks just wouldn’t be practically possible without it. Let’s face it, social bookmarking has spoiled us!

The blessing has also created a challenge, that of using time effectively. There are so many good social bookmarking sites now that it can take a lot of time to tag your pages at all of them, and you really do need to do that. This is why social bookmarking tools have been developed, and a good bum marketer absolutely needs them.

Before using these tools, realize that not all of the services are good for all types of websites. Many of the top bookmarking sites are designed only for blog posts, not web pages - and attempting to use them for regular websites will just get your account flagged or even banned. Netscape/Propellor is a good example, along with all the ones whose URLs start with "blog."

Another thing is that some of these sites are designed for news junkies to share stories with each other, and submitting your web pages will just be viewed as spam. Digg and Newsvine are good examples. So know which sites to use for your bookmarking.

The oldest tool is OnlyWire at www.onlywire.com. At one point this was the way to go, the only way to go really. But it has become less reliable lately, especially when you are using it to submit to more than 8 or 9 services. However, it still has a place in your arsenal.

The best social site to tag for traffic by far is Stumbleupon. This should be the first one you hit. You should download the Stumbleupon toolbar so submitting a site to them is always just an easy click away.

The best multi-site submission tool is Bookmarking Demon. This baby is a huge time saver as it gets your page submitted to a dozen or so top sites at once. Support is excellent and they constantly update it. After hitting Stumbleupon the next step I do is break out the demon.

The demon leaves about 5 worthwhile sites at onlywire, so the next thing I do is hit them, in one click. This works great because with only 5 sites selected onlywire is a lot more reliable.

The last tool is another free web service, and it’s a good one. Socialize This belongs on every marketer’s browser favorites. It There will be a small handful of good sites worth tagging left, depending on your web page type. The better ones are listed at the top under "Top Services." Socialize This automatically loads the fields in from your meta tags, and if you use Firefox you don’t even have to log into them. So it’s extremely convenient even if you do have to hit the sites one at a time.

So that’s it. To recap: Hit Stumbleupon, use the demon, hit Onlywire, use Socialize This. That procedure will get any webpage indexed in 24 hours and establish a heck of a lot of valuable SEO links. Shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes total.
